The Rev. Dr. Samuel Slater Memorial Invitational English Debates 2026

The Rev. Dr. Samuel Slater Memorial Invitational English Debates 2026 were held at Bishop Cotton School from 22nd to 27th April, bringing together 16 distinguished schools from across India for six days of engaging intellectual discourse.

Throughout the tournament, participants debated a diverse range of contemporary issues, showcasing exceptional research, critical thinking, and oratory skills. The competition culminated in a closely contested final between Bishop Cotton School and Sherwood College, Nainital, on the motion, “This House Believes That Love is a Mental Illness.” The host school emerged victorious, while Rajveer Kochhar was adjudged the Best Speaker of the tournament.

The closing ceremony was graced by Jyoti Malhotra, Editor-in-Chief of The Tribune Group of Newspapers, who commended the participants for their eloquence, intellectual rigour, and dedication to meaningful and constructive debate.
