Overcome Evil with Good
Building Character Through Challenge, Serving Society with Compassion
At Bishop Cotton School, we believe that education extends beyond classroom walls. Through the Edinburgh Outward Bound Programme and the Sapan Walia Outreach Programme, we forge resilient leaders who embrace adventure and serve with empathy.
Since 1962, we've partnered with the Duke of Edinburgh's Award Scheme, offering students transformative wilderness experiences that build resilience, self-reliance, and leadership through adventure in the Himalayas.
Our programme is led by Brig. (Retd.) Darshan Khullar, a decorated mountaineer and former Army officer with over 40 years of Himalayan expedition experience. Supported by certified instructors from the Nehru Institute of Mountaineering (NIM), Himalayan Mountaineering Institute (HMI), and Indian Mountaineering Foundation (IMF), students receive world-class training in technical mountaineering, wilderness survival, and expedition leadership.

Journey through the majestic landscapes of Leh-Ladakh, exploring high-altitude passes, ancient monasteries, and rugged terrain that tests endurance and builds character.

Trek through the remote valleys of Lahaul and Spiti, where stark beauty and challenging trails forge resilience and teamwork among students.

Experience the pristine wilderness of Kinnaur, with its apple orchards, snow-capped peaks, and challenging mountain trails.
Technical climbing on natural rock faces and artificial walls, developing strength, problem-solving, and confidence.
Multi-day rafting expeditions on Alaknanda and Yamuna rivers, navigating rapids and camping along pristine riverbanks.
Map reading, compass navigation, and wilderness survival skills taught in challenging Himalayan terrain.
Extended expeditions at altitudes above 4,000m, building endurance, acclimatization, and mental toughness.
Professional training leading to Basic and Advanced Mountaineering certifications from premier national institutes.
Student-led route planning, logistics, and risk management for multi-day wilderness expeditions.
Named in memory of a beloved alumnus, this programme instills social responsibility, empathy, and civic consciousness in our students. Through meaningful community engagement, students learn that privilege comes with the responsibility to serve.
We believe that true education encompasses not just academic excellence but also a deep sense of social responsibility. Through regular outreach activities, students develop empathy, cultural sensitivity, and an understanding that their actions can make a tangible difference in the lives of others.
"Service to others is the rent we pay for our room here on earth."
