Bishop Cotton School, Shimla
The ‘josh’ was high this morning at Bishop Cotton School, Shimla as cheers rang out down the valley early on for the school’s exciting marathon race. (13 April 2024)
If you are an early riser you may have spotted hundreds of Cottonians streaming through the streets of Shimla this morning, long before the tourists were out. The BCS boys (as young as Class 4) have spent the past six weeks training early in the morning for their Marathon cross country run together with their sports coaches.
The Cottonians have been running up and down the steep Shimla roads trying to get fit, since returning back to school after the long winter break.
The race is broken down into age ability with five different starting points around Shimla – the race finishes for all the runners at school on the first flat to flags to the cheers of the waiting crowd.

BCS Director Simon Weale said: “All the boys have done extremely well and they’ve have had to go through some grueling dawn training – but this what our traditions at BCS are all about. It teaches them to succeed in life by hard work, routine and training – together with a healthy lifestyle.”
