Bishop Cotton School (BCS) has been alive with cheering, drums and excitement for the past 3 days as the Heritage school has hosted a cricket tournament together with six other elite schools from around India. (Tournament dates: 1st – 4th May 2022.)
Teams were up very early and talent was seen in all areas of play as the qualifying matches played out for the 19th Major R.K. Von Goldstein Cricket Tournament – named in honour of a former BCS Headmaster Major R.K. Von Goldstein.
The ferocious thunderstorms stopped play on occasion and blew the tenting over – to the delight of the juniors, who thoroughly enjoyed the freak hailstorms.
Chief Guest, Mr Aditya Negi, IAS Deputy Commissioner, Shimla, officiated the start of the final match between Pinegrove School and Vasant Valley School, New Delhi which ended in a draw due to the bad weather.
One of India’s oldest sporting rivalries was played out as Bishop Cotton School, Shimla and The Lawrence School, Sanawar faced each other in another tense qualifying match. The fixture has been played for over 100 years and was another exciting game, with various ebb and flow of fortunes, before BCS emerged the winners.
