Bishop Cotton School holds 10th Bishop George Edward Lynch Cotton Memorial Soccer Tournament

26 August 2022

Whole school rejoice as ‘town leave’ granted, as home team win competition

Bishop Cotton School (BCS) has been alive with cheering, drums and excitement for the past four days as the heritage school has hosted a four-day soccer tournament.  Talented footballers were seen in all areas of play as the qualifying matches played out for the 10th year for the Bishop George Edward Lynch Cotton Tournament – named in honour of the school’s founder.

Four other schools with 65 boys have been staying on campus from around India, staying in the guest dormitories on campus. (Tournament dates: 22 – 26 2022.)

Chief Guest, Mr Rajesh Sharma – Director Youth Service & Sports H.P, officiated the start of the final match between Durga Public School, Solan and Bishop Cotton School A team. The home team won the hard fought match after scoring two goals.

Mr Gurprit Singh, Director of Sports at BCS, said; “After a two-year break of this event the teams have been pumped up for the competition.  The boys even sacrificed their holiday to stay with me in school and train hard for the matches so they didn’t lose their fitness.  It has paid off with us winning the cup for the 7th year in a row. I’m really pleased for them all, they’ve shown dedication and sacrifice.”

The school were up very early for the matches that were played out before lessons together with a march past of each school with their school flag with the school band playing.  The boarders were granted ‘town leave’ in Shimla a chance to walk around the Mall and enjoy the food and shops as a reward for the whole school.
