Bishop Cotton School (BCS) Shimla, Class 7 & 8 students were lucky enough to receive hands-on experience with the latest virtual reality (VR) technology at the weekend (Sunday 6 March 2022).
During a guest lecture by Founder Suren Gollapudi from Learn Beyond Grades, the boys and some staff were able to step into space and experience the wonders of the galaxy, including the effects of gravity via an Oculus Quest 2 headset from Metaverse.
BCS is considering this technology to advance learning.
The students were blown away by the product which can take them to other worlds beyond the limitations of 2D in the classroom. They can actually travel and experience knowledge via gaming tools to help in subjects like medicine, design, science, history and space. The products are being developed in tandem with the school’s curriculum to enhance learning. Suren Gollapudi said of the Cottonians “There are some very bright cookies at BCS, I wish I could employ some of them.”
In the company’s information they quote ‘Imagine a world that transcends all barriers, where everything can be learnt through touch and feel. Wouldn’t it be nice to experience real life examples , life skills and much more at your own pace digitally? Well we now introduce VR for Education, stay engaged, enthused and entertained.’
Bishop Cotton School, Shimla is one of the oldest residential boys’ schools in Asia (founded 1859) and has played a key part in shaping the development of public schools and education in India as well as producing a host of well-known and successful alumni.
