BCS Soccer champs win Sanawar Competition

The Bishop Cotton School, Shimla soccer team, battled through the mud at The Lawrence School, Sanawar’s annual football tournament – to be the champions and win the final trophy at the All-India Bhupinder Singh Memorial Soccer Tournament, Lawrence School, 2024, last night (8pm, 10th September 2024)

The Chief guest was the new HP DGP Dr Atul Verma who commented on the amazing team spirit the boys displayed during their close final match which ended 3 – 2 to BCS who were finalists with PGS (Pinegrove School).

BCS Director Simon Weale said; “This was a thrilling way to end the inter-school season and we are delighted to win such a prestigious trophy.  The 2024 BCS team are one of our most resilient teams ever and have found a way to win three major tournaments this year.  Congratulations go to the boys and our Director of Sport, Mr Gurprit Singh, and his team of coaches.”

The monsoon rains were unforgiving, which led to a very wet tournament that lasted four days.  The football pitch was a muddy mash-up, which had the ball sloshing around with the players sliding around gracefully on the Sanawar Barnes field where 8 top schools from across the country competed for the coveted football trophy.

The muddy conditions didn’t stop the BCS team

Through sheer grit and determination and that ever-present ‘Cottonian team spirit’ the BCS boys fought hard against Pinegrove School to emerge the victors.  BCS boys train hard doing sport twice a day –  they get up early in the mornings and go for runs, they box, they do forest obstacle course and the climbing wall – and that fitness and hard work has paid off.
